DataSet Extensions Group

The DataSetExtensions group contains extension methods that operate on IDataSet. These helpers provide convenience operations for creating and managing tables and rows, accessing tables by name, applying bulk state transitions (AcceptChanges/RejectChanges), creating change sets, and merging refreshed data sets into existing ones using a configurable merge strategy.

Purpose of DataSet Extensions

• Provide clear, intention-revealing helper methods for working with the dataset as the top-level container.
• Reduce repetitive boilerplate when working with dictionary-based table collections (add/get/try-get patterns).
• Support synchronization scenarios: create a changeset to send to the backend and merge refreshed datasets back.
• Simplify composition of datasets used by dynamic UI and orchestration layers (tables, rows, metadata tables).

Typical Capabilities

• Create and add tables, including creating tables from POCO interfaces (schema-driven table creation).
• Add or remove tables and rows with consistent handling and readable call sites.
• Retrieve tables by name using safe helper methods (GetTable/TryGetTable/GetRequiredTable).
• Read and write field values via dataset-level helpers (for example when you operate through table + row identifiers).
• Produce a changeset dataset that contains only the rows required for persistence (CreateChangeset).
• Merge refreshed datasets into existing ones using IMergeOptions (MergeWith).
• Accept or reject changes at dataset scope (AcceptChanges/RejectChanges).

Notes

• CreateChangeset is typically used before saving. It allows you to send only Added / Updated / Deleted rows.
• MergeWith is typically used after refresh. It applies backend results to the current dataset using configured merge rules.
• AsInterface returns a live proxy. Property reads/writes are forwarded to the underlying dataset tables/rows.

When to Use These Extensions

Use DataSetExtensions in application and service layers where IDataSet is the primary container of data. These methods help keep orchestration code readable when assembling datasets, applying bulk updates, and synchronizing client/server state.
